Infinity and Scenery

Getting some more regular games of Infinity going so I picked up some new terrain. Have heard good things regarding the pre painted/printed plast craft games so acquired 2 double modules, 2 two door simple modules and a curved modular building from mighty ape.

They come mostly pre-cut for the big pieces but do require some parts being pushed out. Very little tidy up required with a craft knife.

Super glue is best used, and the pdf instructions + pics on the box make the assembly quite speedy.

In one evening I have 5 new buildings ready to go! The doors, windows, roofs and ladders are removable too.

Had a couple of games on Tuesday night and they worked great creating interesting movement options with all the Infinity orders.

However it really highlights my need to paint the rest of the buildings....

New Gaming Mat

Fellow 40ker Gareth ordered and received a fantastic new Mars themed gaming mat recently. It is one of the those mousepad style ones and came with a fancy carry case and is really nice.

So last Tuesday we gave it a run. We rolled it out then got some terrain on it in the appropriate places. Noted that it might be time to paint a few more buildings (probably red!).

I played Tau and he played Ad mech - 1500pt. I have been running bikes for some time so wanted to show Gareth what a true firepower army was.

My three Riptides (that's fluffy right?) were doing very well early on - the Nova re rolls from the wing formation saving me a wound almost every round.

Meanwhile some sneaky crises suits deep struck in the enemy lines to secure objectives.

The Crises team's intial drop went well but then they all forgot they had decent armour and disintergated quickly to basic fire.

While at my end of the table, fire warriors were doing what they do best now - sitting back on objectives and dying as slow as possible.

At the end Gareth grabbed a small win thanks to some good late game moves. The ad mech pulled out all the stops to hold the red planet! Looking forward to many more games on the mat. Need to do some terrain work as this will be very nice once covered in all painted items.

Terra Firma

Been digging into 6th edition with the bikes, and initially it was quite painful. Learning my lessons well though and had some stunning successes recently. 6th is really fun and everything I hoped for to invigorate my sci fi plastic obsession.

Vroom Vroom!

Haven't been very active on the painting side unfortunately, so I've been experimenting with making some terrain, as my table is looking rather old and unloved. Many buildings are falling apart so I've been reinforcing them and looking to add some new pieces for variety sake. Also some non generic buildings for fantasy would be nice now that I play it on occasion.

First when I went to purchase a new display board (ie. a picture frame) for my army prior to the last tournament in 5th edition, a curious novelty ashtray caught my companions eye. I later went back and picked it up. Cost about NZ$5, then based an old CD with some bricks made from builders putty and voila, I have an evil Chaos Well. Good for either system. Still looking to add some water effects to the middle and maybe some blood splatters.

Also started working on a hill for fantasy. Not sure why, it's not like I have any warmachines being a VC player but seemed like an easy place to start. After a meal of hot dogs I noticed the container they come in flipped upside down would make a good hill-ish shape so I sawed out a base from MDF, with a bit of MDF in the middle underneath for support in case anything heavy should sit on it. Fixed it together with some PVA and rubber bands, then slapped on a nice layer of builders putty so it looks more natural than just a meat container flipped. It's still setting so painting and flocking will come later.

Lastly been thinking of making a full Tau board, never sure where to start. Used to have a Tau landing pad that was quite neat but not sure where it ended up. Anyway knocked this Tau pylon together this afternoon and started slapping some paint on it, turned out rather well. It's one complete piece I glued to a base and painted. See if you can guess what I used.

Base looks all gooey because it's filled with gooey watered down pva and still drying.

Still very much WIP but I must say terrain is a great way to get back into a bit of hobby if you get stuck often like I do.

Preparing for Retribution!

I have not made a post for a few days but I assure you I have not been remiss in my painting.

With Retribution 2 weeks away and myself as the host I have been performing maintenance on terrain and making some new pieces for the 5 tables.

I have completed 15 jungle pieces which I can add to some smaller bases I already had. If I have time I may even make some larger pieces as I've got the techniques sorted out.

I also painted my Arcane Ruins set which I think will be added to in the future as they are such nice useful variable terrain. I considered basing the Ruins but decided against for now as I have yet to decide which of my terrain 'sets' they'll join.

Last night I finished repainting my Imperial Bastions. They were a simple drybrushed grey but as I have a new Imperial army in mind to slowly work on, I want a specific look to their environment. I finished the Honoured Imperium set last week and they go nicely together.

The paint scheme is Khemri brown base, Dheneb stone overbrush, heavy skull white drybrush/overbrush, devlan mud wash into recesses. The Aquilas and Bastion floor/doors are tin bitz.

More terrain to come soon...
