The Green Tide

Warning I am terrible at English read at your own risk!!!!!!!!!!!(Now with Punctuation - Editor Glen)

Long time no post, today I felt like I had a chance to post something worth while.

So I came into 40k in the middle of 5th edition and my first choice of army was Tau, unfortunately the book was old and I just didn't get it and so I gave up on them rather quickly.  So I moved over to the safe choice, Space Marines and played them for a while.  The first tournament I went to with them was Fields of Blood way back in 2010.  I didn't do to hot but came away with Living Saint a.k.a top sportsmanship.  At that point I was locked into 40k, definitely enjoying everything about it but Space Marines to me were kind of bland.  Not painted, but just rule wise just uninteresting.

Then came along Dark Eldar.  I was in love from day one and quickly switched over to them, building up a force of 1750 points as that was the standard for most of 5th ed. Soon after, Glen and I found our way to Sydney to play in Lords of Terra and High Lords respectively a.k.a Glen.  Here I came 7th overall and Glen winning High Lords with one of the oldest books at the time, Night Spinner FTW. Soon after was Call to Arms and once again Warhammer raged on but this time I actually came First overall with Dark Eldar FTW!!!

I happily kept playing them for a while then out of the blue came Grey Knights!  To me they were Space Marines with personality and to this day the best looking Terminators around.  I didn't start playing them straight away as Glen was pondering about building a force, but after some time I finally let loose and started building up units.  I was definitely enjoying them a lot, the rest of 5th and start of 6th but they had lost their shine.  I already had 3 armies and had decided not to start another one.  At the start of 7th I decided to return to Space Marines, with their new book in hand started picking up new units including Sternguard, Calgar box set, Drop Pod, Centurions, the new plastic Librarian and some other stuff!  But it was not to last with the new.....

...Grey Knights incoming I quickly switched back but the book to me is disappointing, but I was enjoying them and then all of a sudden Dark Eldar are coming too!! quickly Picking up the new codex it quickly became apparent the book was average at best there were no new builds and Archons got turned into garbage along with Wyches. :(

Leaving me here.  The other night while doing Tuesday night Pathfinder, I was sitting across from a Dakka jet, as I looked at it something clicked and by the end of the night I had decided to play Orks.  Later that week I received the codex and quickly found myself having a lot of fun with it.  After having my first game with them yesterday I definitely have found that love for an army again.  I did lose the game and there was tons of swearing at Glen (How many cover saves can I keep on making? - Glen) and running out of the room when failing an assault change screaming FUCK!!!! All in good fun.  Really have to thank Joel for selling his Ork army to Glen as it gave me the chance to play them.
Also thanks to Joel for Fantasy as I am now able to play High Elves

Finished Grey Knights for FoB

Finished Cody's Grey Knights which he will be using this weekend at Fields of Blood in Wellington. They are based on Secret Miniatures Bone Fields bases with a couple layers of wet effects added.

I will touch up the power armoured marines force weapons before Saturday but other than than they are good to go.

Just have to do some final touches on my own Wraithseer for the same event.

40K on the horizon - 6th ed & Fields of Blood

Well I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to the gaming juggernaut due to be dropped next weekend.

6th ed 40k will I'm sure be a wonderful full colour tome of gaming just like the 8th ed Fantasy rulebook is. Now the rules of course will be another matter entirely, many many other sources are chatting about the possible rule changes but I shall neglect to speculate and simply wait until I have the book itself to study. I do hope the flyer rules are in though so I can happily 'whoosh' my aircraft about the table.

I will say this though, even if it becomes an overcomplicated behemoth of a game system I will keep playing. I have not rage quit any of my hobbies - I don't count avoiding 4th ed D&D for Pathfinder, it's still D&D. I have spent too many years playing to stop now. I started as a young fella with Rogue Trader having to play the Orks at the Battle of the Farm ,since my mates wanted to use their Space Crusade models to play the Marines. Through the Hero hammer of 2nd ed where a good friend spent his games destroying all the buildings with his Assault Cannon wiedling Wolf Guard terminators. Then the appearance of Dark Eldar with 3rd through the minor tweaking of 4th to the periodically changing meta of 5th. Hell I'm ready for a new set of rules to spice things up.

So come the 30th of June if all accounts are true I shall don my GW fan boy badge and purchase the new rulebook and a set of psychic cards.

However this will be a distraction to the big event of Fields of Blood! I'm pretty pumped for this too and am viewing this as a mighty last hurrah for 5th ed. Overall I'm pretty happy with my performance over this edition. Scored a few 'Best painted' awards, got 2nd at a Masters and a CTA and got my Chainsword for taking High Lords last year. I know others have done much much better - we salute you Mr St Clair ;) But having not played in tournaments for a while before 5th it was a respectable run and all with the Eldar.

So for FoB I am taking the boys from the Craftworld yet again. Now when people see my list I do know it is far far from the most competitive build I could have mustered but bugger it, I started with a Wraithwall, lets leave this edition with one - on crack - I hope. Having playtested my list quite a bit I think I'll do ok whatever that may be. The fact that this is another Pete Dunn run event of course puts it up there too as they are always great events to attend.

At the moment I'm finishing off Cody's Grey Knights which will make the 3rd army I have painted for him this edition! and the 5th 40k army including my varied Eldar forces and Wil's Sisters of Battle. I might finally get onto a second 40k army this new edition, god knows I have the models for enough here.

Painting - Grey Knight Terminators

Just finished this squad for Cody to start his Grey Knight army with.

Must say I enjoyed painting these as I wanted to make each Knight an individual, each shield bears a different pattern which is repeated on the shoulderpads if the icon matches. Adding more red to the plating and trim also broke up the boring silver look which is commonly seen for these miniatures. The armour plated have had a black wash added with some blue and further black in particular areas.

The bases are Secret Weapon Miniature 40mm 'Bone Fields' bases which will have wet effect added when we get some. The Terminators have been pinned to the bases for stability.

I am now working on the Titan Forge Flesh tearers which will be my Crypt Horrors for Horned Rat.

WIP - Coteaz

Lately I havn't been overly focused in the painting department. I have tryed a couple different things with different miniatures without really finishing anything.

I still have my Mortis Engine to complete which I took to Homecon and a couple larger projects about to start. However in the last few days I've done a little bit of work on this chap. I got him in the last order out of Maelstrom before the clamp down and he is the first finecast model I bought. For the initial batch he was in pretty good condition though the hourglass was shot to shit so I'll see what I can do with paint to redeem it.

Now I myself am not looking at using him in the near future but he should be making an appearence on battlefields under other people in my gaming groups command.

I originally was going to paint him in blue armour but after an initial thin basecoat I went back to red which I enjoy painting.

He should be done in the next couple of days (time on swtor depending) and then I'll start on some Grey Knight Terminators for a regular opponent.

GK Ideas

Well I've had a few days to look over the new Grey Knight Codex, can't say I have paid a lot of attention to the Grey Knight entries themselves and yes they do take up the vast majority of the book but its the odd bits and pieces I like.

I can take Coteaz and field an Inquisition army with units comprised of the wonderful Inquisition Henchmen choice. Dedicated assault teams of arco-flagellants, death cult assasins and crusaders. Heavy weapon teams of plasma cannon servitors, Jokaeroa, hellrifle toting Inquisitors. Daemonhost units in a shackled rune coated Chimera. Psyker Squads ferried about in a sterilised warded Rhino... and all troop choices with Coteaz. Add Assassins for an Elite or two, a stormraven or two as personal Inquisiton gunships and a Dreadknight with a shackled Daemon or Psyker as crew and I can have a pretty cool looking radical Inquisition army which is very very likely I will work on for a varied and fun alternative to my beloved Eldar.

Also what do people think of the idea that a Grey Knight army with all their psychic powers would make an awesome Thousand Sons list! Pre heresy anyone?
